Journaling, Fruit Bars, and Sanctification: Sunday, May 26, 2024

By Eylan Martinez from Bob Jones University

On Sunday, I woke up at 8:40 a.m. I read Joshua 20 and 21 as part of my Bible reading plan, and journaled what God was teaching me through His Word. Right after, I started to get ready for church; I picked my outfit, brushed my teeth, and ate a fruit bar for breakfast. Around 9:45 a.m. instructors were outside Covenant Hall waiting for students in two vans and a car to head to Shepherd Church. At Shepherd, we worshiped the Lord through hymns, songs, liturgies, and the preaching of His Word. We received encouragement from the pastor to view the fight against our flesh as a sign of life. He reminded us that instead of feeling discouraged by the struggle to do the right thing, we should embrace the process of sanctification with the end in mind: being more like Christ. At the end of the service, we took Communion together. It was good to remember the sacrifice of my Savior, who faithfully carried me through the first week of WJI. After the service, we stayed at the church for a couple minutes to have fellowship with one another and get to know other church members. Around 12 p.m. we headed back to campus to have lunch together at the cafeteria. Later on, a group of us went to Sioux Falls, for an optional fun trip around downtown.
