Editing Round One: Monday evening, May 20, 2024

Jeremiah M. Yonemura from The Master's University

On the first Monday evening of WJI, we edited the obituaries that we wrote for our WJI applications. We gathered to give and receive constructive criticism, reading each other’s stories. I wrote my obituary on Anthony Fauci, the controversial man who advised Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was grateful for this first editing session. The feedback showed both my strengths and weaknesses as a journalist. I could see that my professor Bob Dickson at my college The Master’s University was teaching me well, but I also learned ways to improve my story structure and content. I don’t know when I will next be writing an obituary, but the next time I do, I will be ready for the task.
