WJI Blog 2022, May 22 PM - God Loves Introverts Too

“After lunch we’ve got a quick little event planned for you guys,” Mr. Lee announced when we got back from church.

Oh great, I thought. All I really wanted was to go back to my room and introvert for as long as humanly possible. Saturday night had been rough. Looking ahead at the schedule, imagining two weeks of days running from 6 a.m. to midnight, and trying to write a profile in three hours wasn’t a great combination.

“Make me dependent on you,” I wrote in my prayer journal that night. “Because you are enough.”

That “quick little event” turned out to be a scavenger hunt around Dordt campus and the little town of Sioux Center. I got paired with a classmate from college and two people I’d just met Friday.

My introverted self would never have picked sprinting around campus, realizing I had no idea what a Terrace Room is, and breaking multiple traffic laws (pretty safely, for the record) as the ideal Sunday afternoon. But it turned out to be just what I needed.

The truth is, I’m good at ignoring God’s goodness. I’m so busy missing the blessings of yesterday that I don’t see the ones He’s giving me today.

I found more than just the illusive Terrace Room on that scavenger hunt. I found the peace I’d prayed for Saturday night. The confidence that God is with me.

Sometimes His presence looks like breathlessly posing for a quick picture outside a waterpark. Sometimes it looks like little kids hurling candy at a crowd of college students. Sometimes it looks like fighting tears on a stone fireplace with your computer open to a poorly written profile.

Sometimes I realize just how little I understand God’s presence and just how much I need it. Sunday afternoon, somewhere between sprinting towards the recreation center and speeding through Sioux Center, was one of those times.

God was with me yesterday. He is with me today. And I know He’ll be with me tomorrow—somehow.
